Ongoing Projects
- Antibiotic Resistence, Food Production and One Health A collaborative developments which include a 3-year grant awarded to Dr. Nero (UFV) and Dr. Call (WSU) by the Programa Ciência Sem Fronteiras (Science without Borders) government program of Brazil. The grant provides funding for training and research partnerships on antibiotic resistance and food production.
- Dual degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor in Sciences (DSc) at the Post Graduate Studies Program has been officially established (January 2015) Academic program through the cooperation agreement between the Washington State University, Pullman, USA and the University Federal of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
- v USA FULBRIGHT ONE HEALTH COURSE AT UFV – March-June 2015 A newly interdisciplinary academic and research partnership program has been created between the USA and Latin America including programs that focus on emerging and neglected infectious diseases, anitibiotic resistance, vector borne diseases, epidemiology of animal products origen, human and animal medicine, and food production. A One Health Course will be lectured in Brazil as part of an USA FULBRIGHT Scholar 2014-2015 AWARD for the First Semester/2015 in Brazil (period of March to July). A discipline and lectures titled: EPIDEMIOLOGY OF DISEASES COMMUNICABLE FROM NATURE – “Reducing Risks of Infectious Diseases at the Animal-Human-Ecosystems Interface.”
- One Health and Emerging Infectious Diseases (WSU and UFV partnership – Drs Troy Bankhead/ Maria Aparecida/ Christina Pettan-Brewer research)
- Prof Tarcizio and Sarah M Corner DVM, MS, PhD, DACVP – Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation, Michigan State University and Woodland Park Zoo (Seattle) – BRCA1 gene in woman and wild free ranging jaguar in Brazil (breast cancer)
- Dr Emilio Nieto, a UFV Veterinarian and doctoral student recently finished the last part of his doctorate (sandwich) at the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr. Nieto and other graduate students will continue his research in collaboration with Dr. Peter Rabinowitz, Director of the Center for One Health Research.
